Women in Horror Video Games: Lisa from P.T

Even just looking at her makes my skin crawl. If I saw her in my hallway, I’m burning the place down.

The now-cancelled Konami project, P.T., takes place in a singular location: A seemingly abandoned house’s hallway (that still has power somehow). You start at the beginning of a hallway and as you travel to the supposed end, you are transported back to the beginning, creating a never-ending horrifying loop. When you turn the corner, you wonder what’s waiting for you on the other side.

And what’s waiting for you on the other side?

Lisa.

Lisa, pre-decomposition.

The terrifying thing about this game and Lisa is that it’s somewhat randomized, so you’ll never know when she appears. She might appear in the very beginning to welcome you home, or you might not see her until it’s too late. Lisa does a great job keeping you on your toes in this cyclical nightmare.

As you travel down the hallway over and over again, you learn what happened to Lisa to make her this way. Not just a terrifying monster, but a tragic character. The more you learn about Lisa, the more human she becomes.

Unfortunately, you’re not facing human Lisa anymore. Now, let’s cross our fingers and round this corner again. Surely this will be the last time…
